Interview with Connie & Jeff, founders of Traveling C Turtles Laser Works
Please introduce yourself
Jeff and Connie Frahm, Traveling C Turtles Laser Works.
Take us back to where this all started! What do you create?
We started with home décor and signs, and have now evolved into travel maps and assorted boxes for games and storage. We also do some tumblers, earrings, and sun catchers for smaller price points.
Tell us about your business and how it has evolved into what it is today.
We primarily do art and craft shows. We have monitored what other laser companies offer and tried to find our own niche, which led to the boxes we create.
When we started with travel maps a year ago, we really fell in love with the enthusiasm they create when people talk about traveling. We are currently working on several of our own designs for world and cruise travel, as well as more specialized travel maps for the states.
What inspired you to get a laser?
I first saw a Glowforge YouTube video and fell in love. After researching, I realized it was not a great investment. I discovered “That Mom with a Laser” and was hooked. I ordered my MIRA 7 in just a couple of days after that.
It has been an incredible ride over the last couple of years, learning and evolving my techniques.
What were you doing before you had your laser?
I have always loved crafting but could never make a living at it. I was working in assisted living and memory care, but that is very emotional and draining. I was like a lost puppy trying to find home until I was introduced to the laser world.
In what ways has your business grown or changed since getting a laser?
We take a lot of pride in our products and in the preparation of our materials, and that comes through in our finished products. Very quickly, we developed a following of customers through our shows, and it has been very rewarding.
We have received a lot of enthusiastic recommendations from friends, family, and customers, especially for our maps.
How has your life changed since getting a laser?
We have control of our lives. We get to decide what shows we will and will not do. We are starting to travel more with our shows, which is very exciting and fulfilling.
When we go back to another state where we have done a show before, and people come up excited that we are there because they had heard about us from the previous year, it is very uplifting.
What advice do you have for people interested in getting a laser?
Do your research. I have recommended people go see the AEON Experience and see the difference between the different lasers available. I also tell them not to start out small. Think about where you want to go in the future and just do it.
The possibilities are endless if you follow your heart. Most importantly, go with a company that backs you and supports you like AEON. Tech support is so important, and AEON is the best.
Looking back, tell us about your significant turning point, or perhaps even an obstacle you had to overcome to get where you are now.
We have been very fortunate in that we were able to work outside the home part time and start our laser business, learning as we go.
The training I have been able to get through Laser Launch Academy, LightBurn, AEON tech support, videos, and other laser resources has helped us keep going forward and never look back.
