Interview with Heather, founder of LoBo Designs

Please introduce yourself

Hi! I'm Heather Lynn... owner of LoBo Designs, Founder of the Glowcreate Facebook Group, AI for Lasers Course Instructor, and Mama of Logan Robert (LoBo).

Take us back to where this all started! What do you create?

I started LoBo Designs in October 2019, shortly after I purchased my first laser, a Glowforge Pro. I've always had some sort of a side business for extra income so it wasn't out-of-the-norm for me when I took a nose-dive and bought a $6k laser with zero knowledge of anything laser-related (my husband has witnessed me pick up a few random hobbies over our last decade together so he doesn't question much of anything anymore lol). I've always been the kind of person who needs to keep busy so, when I saw the ad for the Glowforge, I honestly didn't even think twice... I didn't "want" it, I NEEDED it.

Tell us about your business and how it has evolved into what it is today.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design (LaSalle University — Class of 2005), but I wasn't really using it so being able to bring designing back into my custom work was like winning the lottery for me! In April 2020, in the midst of going stir-crazy in isolation, working my full-time job Mon-Fri and never being able to leave the house, I started hand-lettering and drawing again and fell back in love with my roots. That's when the idea hit me that it was time to venture into the digital world... and, that's where things started to get really interesting for me!

What inspired you to buy a laser?

My digital file sales hit the ground running and within months, I had a thriving digital shop on Etsy... aaaand an unreliable laser. I didn't realize it at the time but going through four defective Glowforge Pros was a blessing in disguise because I was able to learn that I had very quickly outgrown the "desktop" laser world and I was ready for a more powerful machine.

In what ways has your business grown, or changed since buying a laser?

I hopped in on the preorder deals Aeon USA was offering in Spring of 2020 (Shipment #2), received my 90w Mira 9 in September 2020, and never... looked... back.

Aeon USA (and my Mira 9, which I have named Aeyoncé) have changed my entire business and amped up my productivity more than threefold! Engraves that once took 45 minutes on my previous machine are 3-4 minute engraves on my Mira. And the top notch customer service at Aeon USA is a wonderful bonus!

Looking back, tell us about your significant turning point, or perhaps even an obstacle you had to overcome to get where you are now.

What I really love most about being a laser owner/designer/creator is how much I get to learn by creating and testing my designs and how much I am able to give back to our creative community to help others learn and grow as well. I absolutely love to learn and am the kind of person that will share every tip and trick I learn with whoever wants to listen to me. That is the main reason behind why I opened the Glowcreate Facebook Group and what led me to releasing the AI for Lasers Online Course, where I teach students how to create their own custom laser designs!

I'm a firm believer that the energy we put out is the energy we get back and that mindset has allowed me and my business to thrive. I am thankful that I have the outlets and opportunities to be able to assist other users whenever I can, however I can, and am eager to continue learning and sharing every step of the way!
